Intro, About, Purpose
First Post Test
Hello,
I am starting a new journey by recording what I have learned, observed, and accomplished as a young environmentalist.
ABOUT ME:
I graduated from Ohio State in Fall 2022 in Environmental Economics Development Sustainability. Through my studies I have a focus on urban development: land use, redevelopment of under-served communities, ecological restoration, impact assessment, and life cycle assessment. I gained a large exposure to many different services which are implemented in the workforce as environmental employees (i.e. Environmental Health and Safety, Consulting, policy analysis, etc). In my last semester, I worked with Composting and Waste Management, which helped me land my first professional contract. I completed a 3 month contract with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the United States Composting Council (USCC) from February 2023-May 2023. Through the contract, I developed a toolkit for site preparation and zoning considerations for a composting facility. That is a little bit about my academic and professional experience. Aside from that, I love outdoor adventures both from an educational and recreational aspect. I enjoy going on hikes and identifying trees, wildflowers, butterflies, and birds. I also enjoy rock climbing, camping, snowboarding and mountaineering. Some of my favorite memories in the outdoors are completing 10 days and 100 miles of backpacking in New Mexico when I was 16, exploring the Great Smoky Mountains in 2022, and summiting my first 14,000 foot mountain peak in Colorado in June 2023.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this page is to share my experiences particularly in environmental education to the world in order to promote and teach others to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. We all live different lives, and have different experiences, opinions, and feelings. However, we all live on the same earth. The planet we live on provides for us: water, fruits, vegetables, proteins from animals (if you so chose to eat them). Soil to grow crops, flowers, trees, basic components which we manipulate to create homes, cities, and other infrastructure. We also are blessed to have the chance to see some of the most awesome sites: mountains, waterfalls, oceans, grassy plains, deserts. We are part of the earth, and the Earth is a part of us. Therefore, as we would care for a child, a pet, or a friend or family member, we have the opportunity to care for the Earth too! We don't have to drop everything we own and enjoy and go back to hunter-gatherers living in clay huts, but we can do a few things here and there which make a difference. Additionally, we can help set a good example of being stewards of creation, and inspire others to follow suit! So join me on this journey, I will share my knowledge, findings, education, experiences, and joy, and perhaps we can all treat the Earth a little bit better, day by day, year by year!
Thank you!
